Assistant Buyer – Women’s Resort Wear

Job description

OBJECTIVE : To support the Buyer for General Merchandise, to present the best selection of items to our customers in stores and over internet.

BUYING

  • Travel 1-3 times per year to select markets with Buyer. (Halted during Pandemic)
  • Establish, develop and maintain vendor relations through daily interaction. Participate in vendor meetings and store visits.
  • Process orders, negotiate, follow up. Organize and input purchase orders and print bar codes.
  • Study needs and trends of customer base; conduct online research to interpret fashion trends and determine how to relate them to customer.
  • Create color and trend boards by season (Resort, Spring, Summer, Transition, Fall, Holiday/Winter).

MERCHANDISING

  • Support General Buyer in selection and inventory of all merchandise except jeans and accessories.
  • Prepare for (weekly/daily/monthly) buying meetings by analyzing sales, determining needs and fit with the Open To Buy (OTB), and managing OTB for accessories category.
  • Complete store consolidations as needed.

    PHOTO SHOOTS

    • Based on trends, inventory and orders, and marketing needs, create a theme or direction for shoot; collaborate with marketing to fulfill marketing plan and collateral (e.g. direct mail, web images); select items based on markets where items are available and will be promoted.
    • Request photo shoot samples from vendors, gather items from stores, coordinate colors, work with Merchandising Assistant-Accessories.
    • Coordinate shoot with photographer and models, and colleagues.
    • Research shots and create boards for models. Instruct/coach and style models.
    • Process related invoices.

    QUALIFICATIONS Education: Associates degree, Bachelor’s degree preferred in business or related field. Experience: Prefer 3 to 5 years merchandising or retail experience. Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Team player. Positive attitude; patient. Self-motivated. Computer savvy (MS Office Suite). Detail-oriented. Able to handle and resolve ambiguity. Interest in fashion.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Primarily office environment; work on computer/type/enter data; sitting at desk for prolonged periods. Lift 30 lbs on occasion.
